BC COVID-19 News

The province has seen 430 new cases of COVID-19 and 6 more deaths in the last week. There are currently 4,373 active cases of COVID-19 in the province.

 56 of the new cases were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, however, 0 of them were reported in the Powell River & qathet Region.

 There is now a federal vaccine card for travel within Canada. This will be a requirement at national airports, trains, and cruise ships starting November 30th, 2021. Until then, the BC Vaccine Card may be used. Visit https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/covid-19/travel/current for more information.

The Powell River & qathet Region

There were 0 new cases of COVID-19 in the Powell River/qathet region in the past week, bringing our 2-week total to just 1 case. This is exciting news, and we encourage the community to continue keeping yourselves and others safe by washing your hands frequently, getting tested if you have COVID-19 symptoms, and staying home if you feel sick.   

85% of residents in the Powell River/qathet region aged 12+ have now received their first vaccination dose, and 80% have received 2 doses.  

COVID-19 Testing and Vaccine Clinics

Your next opportunity to receive a COVID-19 vaccination is this Saturday, November 6th, from 9:15am to 3:45pm upper-level recreation complex (drop-in and booked). Visit getvaccinated.gov.bc.ca to book an appointment!

For now, COVID-19 testing is available ONLY at the Emergency Department of the Powell River General Hospital. Enter through the main doors of Emergency and register at the front desk. This is available 24/7, no appointment necessary.

While we are working closely to minimize the time required to get tested at this site, wait times in the Emergency Department can vary depending on patient needs. We appreciate your patience and thank you for keeping our community safe by getting tested for COVID-19. We are working hard on a new option for COVID-19 testing and will be announcing details as soon as they are confirmed. 

Flu season

Flu season is approaching! It is especially important to get the influenza (flu) vaccine this year to protect yourself and those around you from the flu as well as reduce the strain on the healthcare system. For more information about the influenza vaccine, please visit https://immunizebc.ca.

This year, the influenza vaccine is available to everyone aged 6 months+, free of charge, through pharmacies, your family physician, and the flu clinic at the Powell River Recreation Complex.

November 19th, 2021, from 3pm to 6pm

November 26th, December 3rd & 10th, 2021, from 11am to 2pm
