DECEMBER 10TH COVID-19 COMMUNITY UPDATE
Local Case Count and Vaccination Rates
As of Wednesday, December 8th, 2021, 85.8% of eligible people in B.C. 5+ have had their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination, and 82.1% have received their second dose. 91.4% of eligible people 12+ have had their first dose, 88.2% have received their second dose, and 12% have received their third dose.
As of Tuesday, December 7, our local vaccination rates were:
- 90% of adults 50+ have received their first dose
- 88% of adults 50+ have received their second dose
- 80% of adults 18-49 have received their first dose
- 74% of adults 18-49 have received their second dose
- 79% of people 12-17 have received their first dose
- 72% of people 12-17 have received their second dose
- 12% of children 5-11 have received their first dose
In the past three days, there were 1,053 new cases of COVID-19 in the province. There are currently 2,874 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Of these cases, 224 are in hospital and 77 are in intensive care. There are 497 active cases in the Vancouver Coastal Health region.
From November 30-December 6, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 59% of cases and from November 23-December 6 they accounted for 67.5% of hospitalizations.
There were 6 reported cases of COVID-19 between November 28th and December 4th in the Powell River Local Health Area (includes City of Powell River, qathet Regional District (minus Lasqueti), and Tla’amin Nation). Continue to remain vigilant in hand washing, getting tested if you have symptoms of COVID-19, and stay home if you feel sick.
Covid-19 Vaccine Clinic
The vaccination clinic located at the Upper Level of the Recreation Complex continues! First and second doses are available for walk-ins. Booster/third doses must be booked in advanced. Register at https://www.getvaccinated.gov.bc.ca/s/
to get notified when you can book your third dose.
Children 5-11 can be booked in the afternoons of all vaccine clinics!
COVID-19 testing is available by appointment at the supported self-testing clinic located on the upper-level parking lot of the Hospital. Visit www.prcovidinfo.com

An appointment for a COVID-19 test does not include an appointment with a doctor or nurse. If you need a health assessment, are testing a child under 5, or need a test outside of the clinic hours, please go to the Emergency Department of the Hospital.
